The City has over 260,000 square feet of building area to operate and maintain, spread over 46 distinct facilities, including:

• Fire Stations 1 & 2
• Police Station

• Maintenance Facility (the “Yard”)

• Various Recreation & Parks Buildings
• Aquatics Center
• Urho Saari Swim Stadium, a.k.a. The Plunge

General Services is responsible for the operation and maintenance of approximately 57 miles of sewer mains and nine lift stations that have a total of 18 pumps.  The lift stations run in an on-call, automated program 24 hours per day, 365 days a year, moving a half-billion gallons of sewage to treatment plants operated by L.A. City and L.A. County.

We take great pride in making sure that the sewer system is maintained and operating in a safe, efficient and effective manner. To report a problem with the system, such as an odor or blockage, please report it here. 

General Services is responsible for the operation and maintenance of approximately 18 miles of storm drains, nearly 400 catch basins, several detention basins, and three lift stations.  We ensure the system is safely conveying stormwater runoff to protect life and property at all times, and we work with the Engineering Division to comply with all Federal and State regulations in an environmentally-conscious manner.

The General Services Division maintains the City's motorized and portable equipment for all the departments including Police and Fire. We ready, evaluate, acquire, replace and dispose of equipment and vehicles to help keep essential services running smoothly and response-ready.

Located next to Dockweiler State Beach, Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant is L.A. County's oldest and largest wastewater treatment facility.
