El Segundo Fire Department has implemented a new E-Z Permit Hub for online permit and plan submissions. We encourage property-owners and contractors to register using the link below and apply for fire permits.

Our new online service will provide a single place for all Fire permit applications, plan submittals, fee payments, reviews, permit issuance, inspection requests, and communication point for City staff.

Applications, plans, and documents must be submitted electronically by clicking below to go to the El Segundo E-Z Permit Hub. Only PDF and JPG file formats will be accepted for attachments. 

• Accelerated Plan Check will be aimed to be completed within 7 working days
• Regular Plan Check will be aimed to be completed within 14 working days
• Contractors and subcontractors must maintain a valid City of El Segundo Business License Number while doing work
• Printed approved/stamped set of plans, signed permit card and inspection cards are required on the jobsite during inspections

Once the staff receives your submitted application, a plan check number will be generated in the portal. Please make sure to keep a record of this number, as it will be required for any questions or follow-up inquiries.

New construction inspections performed by the Fire Department may be scheduled under the inspection step in the portal. 

An Inspection fee will be applied for each inspection conducted. One inspection fee is included in the permit fee. Any additional inspections will be charged once the permit is finaled.

Your permit is valid for 180 days after issuance. This validity date restarts after every inspection made. 

Requests for Extension of Time for Plan Check/Permits may be granted for an additional 90 days when sufficient documentation is provided at the discretion of the Fire Marshal. Please call 310-524-2239 or email fireplancheck@elsegundo.org to begin the permit extension process. 

What is an AM&M Request?

The California Fire Code gives the fire code official the authority to approve an alternative material, design, or method of construction where a project cannot meet the prescriptive requirements of the code but is proposing an equivalency that does not reduce the levels of fire and life safety, structural integrity, strength, fire resistance and/or equipment suitability required by the code.

It is important to keep in mind that an AM&M is NOT a waiver.  It does not excuse a project from meeting the level of safety or performance required by the code, only to achieve it in a way that may not meet the method described in the code.

If use of the AM&M is granted, it is site-specific and will be limited to the particular case(s) covered in the application.  It will not be applicable to future installations or equipment unless specifically allowed by the fire code official.  The application approval may be revoked for cause.
